About

Movement Sunnyvale offers both yoga studios and rock climbing facilities, creating a comprehensive fitness environment. The gym features one of the largest climbing areas in the Bay Area with two boulder sections, top rope, and lead climbing walls that provide diverse grade options for all skill levels. Members appreciate the extensive fitness area, which is exceptionally well equipped compared to typical climbing gyms, and the convenience of on site equipment sales for those who forget gear.

reviewsWhat Members Say

Members praise the gym's extremely friendly community and supportive staff, with specific mentions of coach Alex providing fantastic instruction for children's climbing classes. They highlight the large variety of climbing routes and bouldering projects across diverse grades, along with one of the largest and best equipped fitness areas in any climbing gym. Common themes include the gym getting crowded during peak hours, with recommendations to visit during off peak times for better availability, and appreciation for the convenient equipment sales. Some concerns mention occasional dark lighting in certain areas, the requirement to schedule lead tests in advance, and preferences regarding belay device smoothness, but these are minor compared to the overall positive experience.

A huge shoutout to Alex at Movement in SV for a fantastic intro to climbing class with our child and three friends (ages 6, 8, 11, 12). The kids had a BLAST and Alex was great at instructions and supporting. Our kiddo loved it so much we’re considering a membership and birthday party there for her. PS the kid climbing wall has the alphabet which makes it easy for them to know where to climb next!

Extremely friendly community and staff for all levels of climbers. Can get crowded at peak times, so watch overhead. Also sells all the necessary equipment which is super convenient if you forget to bring something.

I was skeptical of this gym at first because I was coming from Touchstone Gyms after moving, but was wrong. I go off peak hours (past 8.30 pm or mid-day) so I am always able to find a route. Regarding routes: The lead routes and boulders here are solid, diverse, and fun! Regarding staff: So far I found the gym staff friendly and supportive. They also do a lot of events. Regarding price: I go to the gym 4-5 times a week, so the price is very fair for me. Especially with the amount of Movement gyms out there!

Gym is really large with 2 boulder areas. The top rope and lead sections have great diversity in grades and a good variety for lead climbers which was exciting! There were some really tall walls and some shorter walls, so it was good for all people. The actual gym area was one of the largest I've seen at any climbing gym and really well equipped. The things I'm not a fan of are more so issues that I have with all movement gyms- there are GrirGris attached to all the top ropes, not all of them are smooth for belaying. Also you have to schedule a lead test way in advance, so if you're just visiting occasionally it's hard to be able to lead. This gym has a few area in ropes and the front boulder pit where there was a lack of lighting and it was really dark midday. Otherwise great experience first time!

This is one of the largest climbing gyms in the bay area, so it has one of the largest variety of climbing routes and bouldering projects. They usually have a pretty good variety of grades as well. All the Movement gyms have the older style wall texture (before Walltopia became ubiquitous) which I actually prefer bc it looks and feels slightly more like real rock - especially on the crack climbs. This Sunnyvale gym also has a pretty good variety of crack routes. The fitness area is probably the largest I have seen in any climbing gym with a huge variety of equipment. During peak hours this place can get quite busy, so it's best to go on weekday mornings if possible.
