This place deserves all the stars! I've been to a few different climbing gyms, but this one is by far the best. Not once have I had a negative experience with the staff or the members. The community is so amazing and inclusive, and it's the best, most supportive climbing environment there is!

Fun climbing gym, enjoy the variety of top rope climbs and bouldering options. The 3 auto belays also make climbing alone pleasant. The equipment gym is small, but has the necessities and is never crowded. Fun place!

Vertical Hold has three separate gyms that membership gets you access too. This one is my favorite. The staff is very chill, there is plenty of top roping lead climbing, and bouldering. There is also plenty of parking. If you are looking to learn or to improve your skills, this is a great gym in the area to try out.

I visited this gym once while I was in San Diego on business. I'm reviewing it as a training facility for rock climbing. The good: 1. The staff were friendly and helpful. The front desk attendant made sure I got right in and knew about a discount I could use. 2. This is an old-school climbing gym, and I like that. They have textured walls rather than the Walltopia plywood walls seen in many modern gyms. This allows for more realistic cracks and smearing. 3. The training area seems adequate. I did not use it during my single visit, but they have standard weights, exercise machines, hangboards, and a MoonBoard. 4. They have a few auto-belays, so if you are alone, like I was, you can climb ropes without a partner. 5. A great variety of grades—even on the auto-belays. 6. Even though this gym seems to be on the older side, it seems pretty clean. It's cleaner than the Vertical Hold gym in San Diego and pretty on par with most older gyms I have climbed in. 7. Even though I did not get up there, I loved their addition of crack trainers to the climbing walls. Super creative. The not-so-good: I really don't have too much to complain about here. The lighting is kind of dim in the evening, especially in the bouldering area, but it works. They have space for a Kilter board upstairs which would be a major upgrade, but definitely not necessary.
