About

UCSD Main Gym serves as a versatile campus recreation facility offering multiple disciplines including general fitness, rock climbing, gymnastics, basketball, martial arts, fencing, swimming, boxing, cycling, and weightlifting. The gym is part of the UCSD recreational membership program, which provides access to all campus gyms, courts, and pools for approximately $30-40 per month. While the weightlifting section is described as small and some equipment maintenance issues are noted, members appreciate the diverse programming that includes instructional classes, dance lessons, and tournaments for fencing and badminton.

reviewsWhat Members Say

Members praise the awesome staff and excellent coaching, particularly in dance and instructional classes. They appreciate the diverse facilities including basketball courts, swimming pools, martial arts rooms, and gymnastics areas, with many noting the great value of the campus recreation membership. Common concerns include parking difficulties during peak hours, equipment maintenance issues with some machines needing repairs, and the small size of the weightlifting section compared to other areas. Several reviewers mention that while the facility is older, it offers comprehensive recreational programming and a welcoming atmosphere.

I’ve been a regular to this place for over 18 months. The gym section is fairly small as this place is primarily used for instructional classes. There’s a really nice gymnastics section, couple of basketball courts (which also serve as space for martial arts, and fencing), a temperature controlled swimming pool, boxing room, cycling studio, and a combat room for martial arts. It used to be the only gym on the campus until RIMAC which now serves as the primary gym with modern equipments. Great news is that if you take UCSD recreational membership (~$30-40 per month) you get access to all the gyms, courts, and pools on campus. Amazing deal! However parking is a big hassle on campus specially during peak hours. Would recommend coming early in the mornings or late in the evenings.

Check out the campus recreation fee for entry and membership. It has multiple indoor and outdoor basketball courts, a swimming pool, couple of martial art room. There's also a small section for weightlifting and gymnastics activities. They often set up fencing and badminton tournament at times. The place is as old as college revelle.

I went to pick up my granddaughter. Some of summer camp that was held at uc SD. I parked in a spot that had no markings. Cars look just like mine, lo and behold. It was a permit only, but there was nothing saying it was for pyramids only. So I walked away with an $85 ticket for Thirty minutes parking. I absolutely hate this campus. I've told my granddaughter if she goes there for college.I absolutely will have nothing to do with it.She'll have to walk out onto the street before I'll go inside and pick her up. I'm sure it works good for the students who are there and order things, but they have an amazon pickup and you get to carry your return packages all the way from parking, which is on the other side of the campus, so hopefully you have a small package to return. Where you get to park is nowhere near, where you want to go or need to pick someone up. And if you want to pick someone up, you block and stop traffic while you're trying to load your things in the car. Very very poor planning
