About

Equinox Downtown San Diego offers a premium gym experience focused on elevated amenities and customer service. The facility features a large workout floor with extensive cardio equipment, including Woodway treadmills that reduce joint impact, and multiple studios offering complimentary classes like Theme Ride. Members appreciate the resort-level locker rooms, steam room, and amenities such as towel service, toiletries, and an Earthbar smoothie bar in the lobby. The location provides convenient parking with 2.5 hours of free validation, and an outdoor deck offers sunset views of the Midway, with a co-ed outdoor barrel sauna and cold plunges planned for the future.

reviewsWhat Members Say

Members praise the exceptional customer service, with specific shout-outs to staff like Frankie, Carly, Darren, and Eli for being warm, helpful, and providing VIP treatment. They highlight the cleanliness, resort-like locker rooms, high-quality steam room, extensive cardio equipment, and convenient amenities like the smoothie bar and free parking validation. Common concerns include the small weight room with only three squat racks, lack of free rigs for calisthenics, no swimming pool, and a premium price that some feel doesn't match the value compared to local competitors like FIT or Life Time, especially given the delayed opening and crowded sauna and steam rooms.

If you are looking for an elevated workout experience, you came to the right place. Equinox has finally landed in Downtown San Diego and it is everything you would expect from them. If you know Equinox, it’s about the amenities and top tier customer service. The employees are all warm and friendly, which is really refreshing (if you go to other gyms downtown you know). Shout out to Frankie, Carly, and Darren for outstanding customer service. True VIP treatment. The facilities are very clean and the locker rooms are resort level. They are very nice with everything you need to clean up for your day. The Steam room is very high quality. You can tell as soon as you open the door how high quality it is. I love the outdoor deck, you can catch a great sunset workout against the Midway. They easily have more cardio equipment than any other gym downtown, as well as more benches, it’s not even close. The workout floor is the largest in downtown. Here is the thing, you’ll see a lot of space because it isn’t full of unused random equipment. Every single piece of equipment in there is usable. The wood way treadmills are phenomenal (they absorb 40% of the impact making them better on your joints). Couple that with great classes (Theme Ride with Sandy to name one) and an Earthbar to grab a post workout smoothie in the lobby and top it off with the Spa for a massage and you’ve sold me. Parking is free up to 2.5 hours so make sure you validate. PS. Co-Ed outdoor barrel sauna and cold plunges coming soon!

Enrolling was a breeze! Eli was incredibly helpful during my visit. He answered all my questions and is incredibly knowledgeable. One of my main concerns was parking. Eli walked me to the parking area, showed me where to park, and explained how to find the gym space. I also appreciate that you get 2.5 hours of free parking with gym validation. Thanks again, Eli! Update: After my first week at the gym, I must say that it has been quite fantastic overall. Parking is convenient, and the 2.5 hour validation is a great feature. I take advantage of this by getting my validation done upon entry, ensuring I don’t forget to do it when I leave. The cleaning staff takes immense pride in maintaining the gym’s cleanliness. They diligently wipe down weights and spot clean the floors, creating a hygienic environment for all members. The smoothie bar is another highlight. To save time, I highly recommend downloading the app and placing your order 5-10 minutes before you finish your workout. The trainers have been consistently friendly, and the overall atmosphere is positive, with many people smiling and engaging in friendly conversations.

At first it is underwhelming considering the price point and that it was late opening. However when you consider the bevy of classes available at no additional cost along with the cleanliness , amenities , sauna, steam , toiletries. It is a great environment, it is not a bodybuilder or influencer gym. People take selfies but I have yet to see someone set up a tri-pod. The staff is excellent shout outs to my man Marlon, Miss Lanae , Katherine, Dan the Man keeping the locker room clean , Carly professional and just cute, Frankie and Ian all good people. No pool but I have one at home and I would not get in it anyway.

This gym is just okay. I was able to get a discounted founders membership but within the first week I knew I was going to cancel it. The weight room is disappointingly small (they only have 3 squat racks), they don't free rigs for calisthenics training, all the cardio machines are cramped in a corner with no nice views, there is no outdoor turf. The best thing about this gym is the towel service and the bathroom, but you can find the same amenities at FIT and pay less to have access to all 3 locations, plus all FIT locations have swimming pools which equinox lacks. The location is amazing, but that's it, so you're not getting your money's worth at this gym compared to the competition.

Equinox was months late opening, and for a $220 membership, I expected much more than what was delivered. The layout is dominated by cardio equipment and studios, leaving the actual weight floor lacking with only three squat racks and a limited selection of machines. Compared to the LifeTime locations, this space just isn't built for capacity. The locker rooms are fine, the sauna and steam room feel crowded with just a handful of people. The Earthbar offers a ton of good smoothies though selection, but it isn't enough to justify the price over Fit Athletic or LTF. I’ll stay for the year, but I’ll be moving my membership back to FIT once my contract is up.
