I can’t recommend Center for Balanced Training enough. Alex is an amazing handstand coach with a great personality—patient, encouraging, and genuinely passionate about what he teaches. He trained with some very well-known handstand coaches in Europe and does an excellent job passing that high-level knowledge on here in San Diego. What really stands out is his systematic approach to handstand training. No matter your level, Alex breaks things down in a clear, structured way that actually helps you make progress. The gym is also fully equipped with a wide variety of props that support handstand work, flexibility, and mobility, which makes training both effective and fun. On top of that, the environment is fantastic. You’ll find a community of like-minded people who are all working toward similar goals, which makes training even more motivating. Whether you’re a complete beginner or already advanced, this is a great place to train. Strongly recommended for all levels! 💪🤸‍♂️

After years of passively trying to develop my handstand in yoga, I decided 2025 would be the year that I would put in consistent handstand work. I first came here for a weekend Handstand workshop in December (which blew my mind with mobility & strength drills that I never thought about that would help), then threw myself into weekly classes with coach Alex. The space is huge, and has lots of toys! Rings, bars, bands, weights, boxes, sticks. It's like an adult playground! Within two months, I am able to kick-up, hold a split-leg handstand, a tuck, and when I'm lucky, finally get into a full handstand. Alex is knowledgable, fun, approachable, and very encouraging. His drills are spot on, and offers very specific cues that make all the difference. It's now May, and I'm so grateful for how far I've come already! Excited to keep going! Would definitely recommend Alex and his Wednesday AM class, or his Sunday donation class to anyone who desires handstand results. They also offer lots of strength training classes. This place is the real deal.

An absolute gem of a gym hiding in plain sight above "The Gym". Just finished the first 6 weeks of handstand and muscle-up classes and have made strong progress in both thanks to Coach Alex. Alex has a ton of enthusiasm and the knowledge to keep everyone progressing. I haven't been here long, but I've already seen a lot of PRs. Everyone I've met at the gym is also really kind and encouraging. It is a very welcoming atmosphere, which makes it easy to keep coming back. If you're unsure about it, come to the free Sunday handstand class and you can see for yourself. No gimmicks, this is the real deal.

I've been taking handstand classes with Alex at the Center for Balanced Training for the past couple of months, and wow—what a game-changer! As someone totally intimidated by going upside down, Alex's coaching has been transformative. He's incredibly patient, breaks down techniques into digestible steps, and spots form tweaks before you even notice. The gym is a haven for balance work. It's spacious, well equipped with mats and props, and always spotless. Alex's energy keeps sessions fun, challenging, and motivating for beginners like me. I've progressed from wall-assisted holds, to actually being able to balance without touching the wall for a few seconds, all thanks to his expert guidance. If you're curious about handstands, sign up. Highly recommend Alex and the Center for Balanced Training. 5 stars!

I’m doing both open training and handstand training here, and the experience has been outstanding. The community is incredibly welcoming and supportive — you feel the positive vibe the moment you walk in. Alex is a phenomenal coach. I originally came just to learn a basic handstand and picked it up much faster than I expected. Now the structured programming is taking my skills to completely new levels. The progress is real, the environment is motivating, and I genuinely love training here. Abcheck
