Many specifically mention owner Robert as knowledgeable and effective at creating personalized workout routines. I remember getting a membership there in March of 2012 when I got out of prison and it was small independent and very close to my brother's house

This gym is a hidden Gem! Super cool place to get a workout in without all the unnecessary frilly stuff. Even the people that workout here seem down to earth and easy to talk to. I would highly recommend this as your place to get a good workout in, oh yeah and the fees are super reasonable!

Now uptown fitness. New owner is a hyper-Christian and only christian music is played. Very strict (unwritten) rules, as if you were working out in someone's personal home gym - don't use too many stations at a time, no cursing, masks at all times (even if no one else is there and you're standing next to an open door), gingerly use machines, etc. Owner has no problem harassing you, threatening to throw you out, and/or giving you a lecture on his half-baked rationale. And of course, the facilities are generally usable but severely worn out. Most lights out, no AC/heat, but it does has some stationary fans. Though these are never turned-on even during 100deg days and/or don't stay on because they overheat. It's only a gym for either the owner's friends or the most die-hard. Owner / attendant are almost never there, have to hunt him down to pay the monthly dues in cash. Just unprofessional in almost every capacity, not a gym worth attending even for the fees (which should be less considering the gym's condition).
