reviewsWhat Members Say
Members consistently praise personal trainers Sarah Price and Chris Chilton for their expertise, encouragement, and ability to tailor workouts to individual goals and limitations. Reviewers highlight progress in strength, weight loss, injury recovery, and confidence, with specific appreciation for trainers' focus on proper form, digital workout plans, and supportive check-ins. Some concerns mention occasional cleanliness issues with dust and equipment, passive corporate customer service, and dated facilities at the midtown location, but these are outweighed by positive coaching experiences.

I have been training with Sarah Price for 3 months. My goal with joining this gym and investing in the personal training sessions was to get stronger, lose, weight, but most importantly to feel like I belong in the gym. I have certainly accomplished my goals with Sarah! I look forward to my workouts now and don’t feel overwhelmed by all the equipment. Sarah pushes me to my limits but always keeps good form and safety in mind. She comes up with modifications if needed. It’s very rewarding to see myself progress week by week. She celebrates my wins with me, checks in to make sure I’m tracking my food, and provides digital lists of the work outs I should complete weekly. It’s been a great experience, highly recommend.

I have been working with Sarah at the mid-town location for several months. Sarah has been positive and encouraging through my fitness journey. She has pushed me to excel and become stronger but also respected my need to slow down to maintain a healthy life balance, but she continued to check-in. She is a stickler for correct form, which I love. Sarah changes my routine to ensure I am continuing to improve my fitness. She also moved to a digital format so the workout plan can be easily shared and used when working out alone. I highly recommend booking a session with Sarah! It is fun and you will see progress. I have dropped two clothing sizes in our time together!

I started coming to this gym about 8 years ago at the ripe old age of 60. The best part about this gym, to me, is the personal training I receive from my knowledgeable and encouraging trainer Chris Chilton. Chris has a degree in Exercise Science and is excellent at his job. I went from a non-athletic person who shied away from physical activities for fear of getting hurt, to someone who faces physical challenges with confidence. Balance has always been challenging. We worked on developing better balance. My overall health has also improved and I attribute to having strong bones (no osteoporosis) to weight training with Chris. Although there are other InShape gyms by my house in Carmichael, I drive 25 minutes to come to the midtown gym so that I can train with Chris! Starting personal training was one of my best decisions in life!

I've been a member of In Shape ever since it switched from California Family Fitness. I've visited several locations, but mostly go to the midtown gym. The gym itself is a bit old and stuffy, but what keeps me coming back is my trainer, Chris Chilton. I've been training with Chris for years. He's kind, knowledgeable, and makes working out fun. In May, I suffered five fractures to my tibial plateau. With Chris' help, I've managed to make incredible progress in my strength, flexion, and extension. I've worked out with other trainers, but they all pale in comparison to Chris. He is a real asset to In Shape.

Pro's: -Gym has most of the amenities you need for a solid workout. -Members are nice, or at least not rude -Most weights get re-racked -Sauna is kept running Con's: - Dust/hair can be seen below, around, and behind machines and weights. Sometimes even vents and fans have visible dust caked on. - TV's are small and/or not functioning -Trainers do take up a good amount of space for the size of the gym -Some trainers do not re-rack weights -In-Shape corporate "customer service" is passive. As others have mentioned, they often don't reply. -People walk into sauna with their workout clothes. Shoes included. Some will even stand on the bench with their gym shoes on. Pretty gross. Suggestions to corporate: - Change Trial passes - industry standard is 3-7 days. No need to give month trial passes - - it's usually trial members that leave trash, cans, or don't re-rack weights. - purchase an industrial grade robot vacuum - let it vacuum when gym is closed. - use ACTIVE Mold Stain remover in showers - gross to see black spots in grout - only hire front-end staff willing to clean - don't need overhead just checking people in
