About

Yoga Shala West offers Ashtanga yoga in a traditional, personalized format that differs from typical Los Angeles yoga studios. The studio operates with morning practice windows rather than set class times, allowing members to arrive when convenient and work through individualized sequences developed with their teachers. Coaches Pranidhi Varshney and Meredith Fogg Liebross provide one-on-one mentorship during these sessions, drawing from their extensive training with renowned Ashtanga teachers like Manju Jois, Nancy Gilgoff, and Sharath Jois. The practice environment is intentionally quiet, with no music, heated rooms, or branded fitness approaches, focusing instead on meditative, rigorous self-development.

Words that describe Yoga Shala West: community, calm, small but mighty, balanced, individualized, rigorous, meditative. Words that do NOT describe Yoga Shala West: loud, sculpt, heated, branded. This is an Ashtanga yoga studio, meaning it's not your typical LA heated vinyasa class. We join in the mornings to do our individual practice, side-by-side, with no music and one-on-one mentorship from teachers Pranidhi and Meredith. There is not a set time for "class" - you come during the morning window at a time that works for you and practice the set of poses that Pranidhi or Meredith have refined with you. If you like being coached, if you're looking to invest long-term in something or develop routine, if you're curious about integrating meditation or pranayama more regularly into your daily rhythm, or if you're eager to develop a nuanced strength and flexibility, then this could be an amazing community for you. YSW also hosts regular sound baths, potlucks, retreats, and cleanses. It's truly a sweet and supportive community.

I’ve been practicing Ashtanga yoga for many years, and after a long search for the right shala, I finally found this special place. The teachers have truly big hearts, the community is warm and supportive, and the space itself is welcoming and grounding. If you’re looking to deepen your Ashtanga practice with an emphasis on self-development and awareness, guided by compassionate and knowledgeable teachers, this is a wonderful place to be.

Soon after returning to the US, I feel very fortunate to find this shala. Teachers are kind, experienced and encouraging. Fellow practitioners are calm, focused but also willing to help. I am grateful.

I've been practicing Ashtanga Yoga for a little over three years and I've been coming to Yoga Shala West for 3 years. I can say with absolute confidence that we have a warm and supportive community that is dedicated and motivated to the practice of AY, from the beginner to the most experienced one, and respectful of each other. Personally, I started from zero, making progress inch by inch. And with each inch I've always have the support and guidance of the teachers and comrades.

This is a warm and welcoming space for all. The teachers have a deep knowledge of the practice and are able to apply this to each individual student in a graceful and supportive way. Pranidhi fosters a warm community environment by offering opportunities to connect outside of class such as a holiday party, retreat, Ayurvedic cleanses, special new year's tradition with 108 sun salutes, etc. I highly recommend practicing here and seeing how ashtanga yoga can enhance your life!
