About

Texas Canyon Rock Climbing Area offers a premier outdoor climbing experience in Los Angeles, focusing on sport climbing with some trad and multi-pitch routes available. The area features a wide variety of routes suitable for all skill levels, from beginner-friendly 5.7s to challenging 5.12s, with solid rock and abundant features. Climbers appreciate the easy access, short hike to the crag, and ample parking, making it convenient for day trips. The area is detailed in a published guidebook and on The Mountain Project app, providing comprehensive route information for planning climbs. Many routes are equipped with bolts for both lead climbing and top roping, creating an ideal environment for those learning to lead or seeking varied challenges. The canyon remains relatively cool in the mornings even on hot days, though afternoon sun offers excellent photo opportunities. It is a dog-friendly location, though visitors are advised to use leashes and tie off pets appropriately. The community atmosphere is welcoming, with climbers often noting the friendly people they encounter during their visits. While the area is not overly large, it provides enough variety for a full day of climbing, catering to everyone from beginners to advanced climbers. The main canyon can experience strong winds between the rocks, and bees are occasionally present due to a long-standing hive, but these factors do not detract significantly from the overall experience. There are no restroom facilities on site, so visitors should plan accordingly. Despite being off the beaten path, Texas Canyon remains easily accessible and is considered one of the best sport climbing destinations in the region, offering beautiful scenery and a rewarding climbing day.

Great routes, easy access to the trail and site. The people I met were all wonderful. Dog friendly, but I would use a leash and tie them off. A wide variety of routes for skill levels from a harder 5.7 to 5.12. It is off the beaten path but not so far that it is hard to access. Overall one of best experiences sports climbing thus far.

What a great spot! Can't believe I never made it here before. Tons of routes at all levels. Mostly single pitch sport climbs, but there are a few 2 and 3 pitch climbs and a few Trad climbs. LOVED IT!

Great climbing spot! There were a lot of bees in the main canyon, someone told us there’s a hive that’s been around for a while. But overall, great spot with great sport routes. Lots of long routes with different rating levels. Solid rock with lots of features. There’s a published guide book for the area. Plenty of parking and not a long walk at all. Can be hot so check the weather but even on a hot day the climbs in the canyon are pretty cool all morning! Wasn’t even too busy on a Saturday in October when we went! There is no restroom FYI…!

Such an awesome place to climb! A short but beautiful walk back to the rocks, and once you're there you have tons to choose from. Even on good climbing days, there are plenty of routes for most levels of climbers. Routes have bolts for lead climbing and top roping, and many are detailed on The Mountain Project app. Afternoon sun makes for incredible pictures. Beware the wind tunnelbetween the rocks. Great place to learn how to lead climb!!

Great local climbing area. It's not huge but it's enough to have a good climbing day, enough variety from beginners to crushers. Short hike in that feels longer on the way out (uphill).
