reviewsWhat Members Say

Members consistently praise specific coaches like Jasmine, Dave, and Joe for their motivating styles and excellent music selection, while front desk staff including Madison, Jace, Danny, Rafael, and Jocelyn receive recognition for being exceptionally helpful and welcoming. However, multiple reviewers express serious concerns about outdated equipment, crumbling studio floors that leave particles on hands and knees, and frequent breakdowns of rowers and treadmills. Several long-term members note that favorite coaches have departed over time, affecting the sense of community, while management issues have created what some describe as a toxic environment that has driven away talented staff. Some specifically recommend trying other Orangetheory locations in Koreatown, Hollywood, or Glendale instead of this downtown studio.

This studio really amazed me. It has been a while since I walked into a studio that impressed me this much. Out of almost forty studios I have visited, this is definitely my favorite in the Los Angeles area. Being in such a corporate concrete setting, I expected the people to reflect that same vibe, but it was the complete opposite. Everyone I met was kind and welcoming. The front desk team I interacted with at different times were all super friendly. My first experience was actually over the phone when I called to figure out parking. Madison went above and beyond by texting me clear directions along with a visual graphic and a YouTube link, which made finding the parking structure so easy. She was so nice and helpful. Jace and Danny were also great and very welcoming. (Thanks for the recs Danny) It was a nice surprise to find Tesla chargers in the parking structure so I could charge while working out. I took several classes during my visit to Los Angeles and had Jasmine and Dave as instructors. Both were incredible. Their music selection was great and their coaching styles were motivating and fun. To the manager, I have to say you are doing something right. Your team truly makes this studio stand out. This is the vibe. I do not think I will go to any other studio when I am in town. I have officially found my home studio away from home in Los Angeles.

I'm relatively new to OT, having signed up less than a month ago. While I'm familiar with what my Fort Lauderdale studio offers, my recent visit to the DTLA location on Sunday, April 14th, 2024 was a delightful surprise. First impressions matter, and the studio's cleanliness and spaciousness immediately caught my attention. Compared to my home studio, it felt quite expansive, though perhaps that's just the effect of DTLA's towering architecture. Nevertheless, I found the ambiance quite appealing. The staff, particularly Rafael and Jocelyn at the front desk, were exceptional. Their warm welcome made me feel right at home, despite being in unfamiliar surroundings. Navigating a new environment can be daunting, but their friendly demeanor eased any apprehensions. I appreciated their transparency regarding fees, especially since my home studio had forewarned me about potential differences. Rafael and Jocelyn's careful explanation ensured there were no surprises, a detail I found considerate. Meeting Coach Joe was a highlight of the experience. Despite his initially intimidating appearance, he proved to be incredibly personable and attentive. His willingness to guide and demonstrate workouts alleviated any uncertainties I had. Though seeking assistance can sometimes feel embarrassing, Coach Joe's approachability made it a non-issue. His infectious energy elevated the class, motivating me to push through the workout. While the music selection didn't quite match my preferences, Coach Joe's encouragement kept me engaged and focused. Overall, my experience at the DTLA studio was highly enjoyable. The exceptional OT team made me feel welcome, and I look forward to returning during future trips to LA.

STAY AWAY!!! For over three years and 1,000+ classes, I was a loyal member of this location until the gym went downhill under new management, and I had to terminate my membership. The current General Manager Shannen is an absolute volatile human being. There have been consistent occasions where she has been vile and condescending to paying members, her staff and even the coaches. Unfortunately, the toxic work environment she created has chased out the best coaches the gym once possessed, and the studio is left with mediocre and unmotivating workouts. The culture is so sour that it is not worth your investment to attend. The owner of the location is even worse. She refuses to invest in improvements to gym like adequately fixing the gym floor, which is old and disgusting. You will leave the workout with black knees and floor particles all over your hands. Broken and out-of-order equipment is a frequent occurrence at this location too. I would definitely recommend pursuing one of the many other gyms in downtown LA for your fitness needs. And if it's Orangetheory Fitness that you're interested in specifically, I would suggest trying one of the surrounding locations like Koreatown, Hollywood or Glendale, as those studios are under different ownership/management and by far a superior experience than what Orangetheory Downtown LA now has to offer.

Out of towner Premier member here. Googled OTF LA and the map took us to a different location that wasn’t open yet. Called the studio in advance and front desk Danny, explained my situation, and he claimed he could extend my acceptance into class an extra minute (than just the 5 minute extension) if I made it within 6 minutes of class time start 6:30pm. Ran and came in on time. Front door was locked. Danny was inattentive and didn’t notice me at the door. Had to knock on it a few times waiting there. Another worker from the office came at door not even knowing the situation. Got turned down. He offered to schedule a class for the next day but I am in the Transformation Challenge and am flying out tomorrow for Hyrox AZ as explained to him. He said I wouldn’t be charged to say the least. He said else the owner would get mad and they’d be sued. Been a member for 10yrs total, visited nearly 50 studios, and have never been told this. Was standing outside locked out in the dark alone til my ride came back. Horrible experience.

I recently cancelled my membership after being a member for 3 years. To begin with, the studio floors and equipment are outdated. Their floors are crumbly and it hurts to stretch without a mat. On top of that, some mats are falling apart and I saw a resistance band snap in half on someone during a workout because of how old it was. Rowers and treadmills are constantly down and at times they do not detect my OTF heartrate monitor device. Another main reason I canceled is because, as a Latina, I no longer feel represented at the studio as there are currently no permanent Latino/a coaches. Additionally, many of my favorite coaches (Kaymi, Shelby, Jake, Joe, Suzy, and Valentine) have left over the years and the high turnover has made it difficult to feel the same sense of community and belonging that I once did. I am especially saddened and upset about Coach Kaymi's unplanned, abrupt, and sudden departure. She was the reason I stayed, even after some of my other favorite coaches left. Her departure ultimately pushed me to make this decision. She is an amazing coach and I know OTFDTLA will not be the same without her. OTF DTLA needs to reevaluate their management team because they keep losing great coaches. I will be taking my business to another fitness studio.
