About

Power House Gym Houston offers a classic bodybuilding and Olympic weightlifting environment that prioritizes serious training over luxury amenities. The facility maintains an old-school, no-frills atmosphere where members can focus on strength development with heavy equipment in a dedicated space. While traditional cardio machines are limited, the gym compensates with functional training options like outdoor farmers carries, appealing to those who prefer unconventional conditioning methods. The owner is actively involved in both operations and community building, having opened the gym as a shelter during Hurricane Harvey, demonstrating a commitment to supporting Houston residents beyond fitness services.

reviewsWhat Members Say

Members consistently praise the authentic, old-school bodybuilding atmosphere and the owner's generosity, noting he opened the gym as a shelter during Hurricane Harvey. Many describe it as a perfect grindhouse environment for serious lifters who don't mind sweating and appreciate the community feel. Specific concerns include cleanliness issues, particularly with restrooms, and one reviewer mentioned feeling uncomfortable with the owner's jokes and communication style. The lack of traditional cardio equipment is noted but generally accepted as part of the gym's focused approach to strength training.

Best gym I have ever been to hands down. This is a real grindhouse. If you’re looking to keep your hair gel in tact or looking to not sweat, this place is not for you. This gym is a real gem . A diamond in the sand in my honest opinion.

This place is totally awesome! Went here to film for the Harvey movie and the owner is really cool and laid back. He offered his place to be a shelter during the actual Hurricaine Harvey. Very generous person who welcomes everyone with open arms.

A good old school heavy bodybuilding gym any flaws it has really come out in the wash with the events and the community only negative I’ve seen is the lack of traditional cardio equipment but if you really need it you can go out and do farmers carry’s in the yard

A friend and I were visiting from out of town and showed up before the doors were open, totally our fault. That said, within minutes both the property manager (and her adorable chihuahuas) and the owner were there without us even calling them to open the doors and welcome us back. Our ride was already there to pick us up so we couldn't go in, but these are definitely the kind of people I want to support, and can't wait to come back and lift in a few months, the atmosphere is perfect, like something out of a bodybuilding movie.

The gym is dirty dirty. The restrooms look like they have NEVER been touched. As a Woman the owner makes me very Uncomfortable with weird corney jokes and the way he talks to the vendors guys is SO DISGUSTING.
