Iyengar Yoga Institute of NY has been life changing for me! I have been attending in person and now remote classes for about 5 years. All of the instructors are highly skilled, committed and attentive. Even on Zoom, they don't miss anything (lift those arches Dian!). They also actively build community (with community classes and events) and their customer support is highly responsive and efficient. I can't recommend the Institute enough!

Get yourself to these incredible yoga classes. By far the most experienced, nuanced, dynamic, nourishing and inspiring classes I’ve ever experienced in my practice. I came to New York for an extended work trip, and was excited to explore the offerings at the institute and I’m leaving NYC completely transformed and inspired by what I’ve learned from these incredible instructors. If you are new to Iyengar, don’t be intimidated; this is the perfect place to get curious and build a practice. There are so many phenomenal teachers, but I would particularly recommend Deidra’s class. Her class is warm and welcoming, but don’t you worry, it’s also challenging. I always leave sweaty, having learned something new and with my mind (heart?!) blown open. So much gratitude for all of the wisdom and beauty shared. Truly a special place :-)

This is a serious Iyengar Yoga studio, but it is completely novice-friendly and welcoming to new students. The space is beautiful, immaculate, serene, and extremely well equipped with all the props you could ever want. No need to schlep your own mat. The instructors are experienced, professional and extremely well equipped to deal with students at all levels of experience and dedication to the practice of yoga. They offer the most thorough, clear yoga instruction I have ever had. There is a prevailing attitude that yoga is for everybody. No judgement – just incredible support, guidance and a willingness to share their knowledge. I wouldn’t consider practicing anywhere else. In addition to the amazing classes, they offer weekend workshops which focus on different body parts: hips, back, shoulders etc. The workshops are reasonably priced considering the quality and the amount of relevant information shared. One comes away from these workshops with a deeper understanding of how the body works and how to manage it. I always feel amazing after class. My posture has improved and as time passes, my lower back pain keeps diminishing. I credit this studio for improving my posture, yoga practice and my musculoskeletal health. Thank you!

I had a very disappointing and hurtful experience at this yoga studio. During the class, I was struggling to follow some movements and explained to the teacher that I have a visual impairment and difficulty seeing what she was demonstrating. Instead of being understanding or supportive, I was not taken seriously. Her response was: “But you can hear.” This felt dismissive and showed a complete lack of awareness of how disabilities actually work. especially in a yoga class. The overall attitude felt ableist and exclusionary rather than inclusive. What made the situation even worse was that she then started speaking to me in French and asked if my English was “maybe not good enough.” English is not my native language, but I communicate clearly, and this comment felt humiliating and unnecessary. I felt singled out and embarrassed in front of others. I have never felt so badly treated in a yoga class. Yoga should be a safe, inclusive, and respectful space. Unfortunately, this studio felt ableist and unwelcoming. I would not recommend this place to anyone who expects empathy, accessibility, or basic respect.

I had an extremely uncomfortable and upsetting experience at this yoga studio. The yoga teacher singled me out during class, and made comments that felt humiliating rather than supportive. Yoga is supposed to be a safe and welcoming space, and this was the complete opposite. What made it worse was what happened afterward. I told the receptionist that I felt uncomfortable, and instead of taking my concerns seriously, they laughed. That reaction showed a complete lack of professionalism and empathy. No one should be made to feel ashamed or ridiculed in a wellness environment. I left feeling embarrassed and unwelcome, and I would not recommend this studio to anyone who values respect, inclusivity, and basic human decency.
