reviewsWhat Members Say
Members praise the recently remodeled facilities with versatile, high-quality equipment including Olympic platforms, extensive dumbbell sets up to 150 pounds, and specialized machines like hack squats and cable cross stations. They consistently mention a friendly, respectful atmosphere and appreciate the late 11 pm closing time and prompt equipment maintenance. However, significant crowding is a major concern, with lines for machines during both peak and off-peak hours, and some note uneven flooring in the dumbbell area. Several members report frustrating experiences with customer service, including billing errors, double charges, and difficulties with membership cancellations that contrast with the positive training environment.

clean. towel service. friendly staff members. On top of fixing machines and touching up the locker rooms. Recently did a redesign of the weight room/machines. It flows a lot better.

Whenever I’m on the Upper West Side and need a workout, this is the Crunch location I visit. The gym was recently remodeled, and it shows. All of the machines are brand new, with a versatile equipment setup that supports a wide range of training styles, including a hack squat, multiple Freemotion dual cable cross stations, and multiple Hammer Strength Select pec fly. The dumbbell area is also a highlight, with two full sets available, one set going up to 90 lbs and another extending all the way to 150 lbs, making it suitable for both casual lifters and those training heavier. The addition of three Olympic weightlifting platforms is another major plus. They also have a plate-loaded standing T-bar row, which is great for back training. That said, I do wish they had a chest-supported T-bar row, an additional hip thrust machine (they currently have one Booty Builder), and some type of incline fly machine to further round out chest and glute work. Another convenience is that this location stays open late, closing at 11 pm, which is ideal for evening workouts. Maintenance is handled well here, and most of the time, if a machine goes down, it gets fixed quickly. The main drawbacks are the crowds and the layout. The gym is busy most of the time regardless of the day, and the second-floor flooring is uneven (near the dumb bell area), which can be noticeable during certain lifts. One thing worth highlighting is the overall atmosphere. All of the members I’ve interacted with, both individually and when working out with my friends, have been friendly and respectful, and every interaction has been positive. Overall, this is a well-equipped Crunch location and one of the better options on the Upper West Side. If you can work around the crowds, it’s a reliable and convenient place to train.

I've only visited as a guest on several occasions. The facilities are good. Then one day I stopped by and got double charged. This was over two months ago, and customer service first pretended to try and resolve the issue, then claimed that they never double charged me (even after showing them proof of my credit card statement), now they straight up refuse to respond anymore to my follow up emails to return the money that I'm now considering stolen. Needless to say I won't be returning.

I’ve literally never seen a gym so crowded and over sold. There are lines for every machine 5 people deep during busy hours and non busy hours 1-2 people. Treadmill had a 15 minute wait list. Their solution when I asked was for me to come in at 5am. They clearly do not care about the customer experience. It’s not even about waiting to share - you can’t when you have a multi person line. I love this gym and have been going for years - this is just not sustainable.

I tried to cancel my membership in July, gave them a call and the girl said my cancelation was processed and I get a free month. Thought everything was great. I find out in December that I was still being charged. When I called them again they said I have to either cancel online or email them to cancel, and they can't issue a refund. Also I didn't see any cancellation button on the website, which is why I called in the first place. They need to make their cancellation policy crystal clear and consistent, this is nothing short of a scam.
