About

This multi-level gym in Manhattan offers a comprehensive fitness experience across three floors. The ground level features dedicated space for classes, while the second floor focuses on weight training and cross fit equipment alongside some cardio machines. The third level houses additional cardio equipment and changing rooms. Members appreciate the good location and note the availability of quality equipment, including heavy kettlebells up to 60kg. The facility provides a typical New York City gym atmosphere, which can become crowded during peak hours.

reviewsWhat Members Say

Members praise the gym's convenient location, multi-floor layout, and the availability of quality equipment like heavy kettlebells, while acknowledging it can get crowded. However, significant complaints center on equipment issues, specifically a frequently broken single shoulder press machine and a lack of lower-back machines. The most severe and repeated criticisms involve problematic membership cancellation processes, unexpected charges, and unhelpful staff interactions, with multiple members warning others about billing practices and customer service.

Good location. There are 3 floors. The ground level has space for classes, the second level is mainly weight and cross fit (plus some caloric) and the third level is mostly caloric + changing rooms. I used to play kettlebells for workout. They have a lot of good quality and heavy ones up to 60kg! Agree that it can be crowded but it is NYC : )

I’ve been a devoted member of Crunch for over 15 years, enjoying the convenience of having a fitness center right next door. Over the years, I’ve appreciated the variety of equipment and the general atmosphere. However, I’m now writing this detailed review in the hope that management will pay attention to two ongoing issues that are really impacting the member experience. First and foremost is the problem with the shoulder press machine. This is one of the most critical machines for a full upper body workout, and the gym only has one. That means there’s often a line for it even under normal circumstances. Now it’s been out of order for a week, and it could take weeks to fix. This situation has left many of us with no choice but to go elsewhere to maintain our workout routines. I’ve personally had to join another gym farther away, and some of my long-time gym friends have done the same. It’s inconvenient and adds extra cost, which is frustrating for those of us who’ve been loyal members for years. The obvious solution is to add at least one or two more of these machines so that when one is broken, members aren’t left waiting in line or forced to find another gym. It’s a recurring problem, and it feels like management isn’t paying enough attention to the equipment issues that really matter to regular members. Secondly, there’s also a longstanding issue with the lack of any good low-back machines. A well-rounded workout includes strengthening the lower back, and I’ve mentioned this need before to management. Unfortunately, that feedback seems to have been overlooked as well. Without proper equipment for the lower back, we can’t do all the exercises we need in one place, which is another reason some of us have been forced to look elsewhere. In conclusion, I’m giving this gym a one-star review right now because these two issues have become too significant to ignore. If they can add at least one or two more shoulder press machines to prevent these long waits and address the lack of low-back equipment, I’d be more than happy to bring my rating back up to five stars. I hope this detailed feedback helps them understand the importance of these changes to long-term members like myself.

Horrible experience with the staff members. I am a frequent traveller between NYC and abroad for the past 2 years. I joined Crunch around 3 years ago. the gym on 54th was ok, nothing to complain. But as I was moving out of the country from Dec 2025, I came in to cancel my membership one day before my flight on Dec 2025, and was told it was all taken care of and I will be charged only Jan 2026 fee. this is reasonable so I am good. Then when I was overseas in February 2026, I noticed another $90 charge on my credit card from Crunch so I called them up, explained the situation and also the fact that I am not in NYC so please do not charge me. They refused to cancel saying my membership was still active. I was speechless but fine. I came back to NYC 3rd March and the second day I walked in to cancel. I was told manager was away from the front desk but he got the message and will call me to cancel. I waited a day and never got a call or any form of communication. so I called again and finally got an email saying I can't cancel it since I do not have proof of my original request of cancellation. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. Now i am past my due time with this cancellation game. I just changed my card and let credit card company handle them. For anyone who is considering joining, you can find a decent gym, like, for life. They will make sure you have a lifetime membership. For proof, I attached my gym card. What a joke.

(28 Dec, 2025) I signed up a 3 day free pass just to try the gym while Im in NYC. I am Active duty military and I am a NY resident with NY state ID. Everything was great until the staff asked me what is the purpose of visiting. I simply answered truthfully. Im active duty military, just here for holiday and wanna try the gym. After I said that, the staff was like- today will be on us but tomorrow if you come you have to buy a day pass and I was like what? I signed up a 3 day pass online and I have a NY state ID which consider as a NY resident. Just because the military sent me to another state, doesn’t mean that I am not a NY resident anymore. And he was like- since you are not staying here you won’t get a 3 day pass. At least he could honoured my service and give me a 3 day pass which I signed up for but he refused to do that. I would never come back to the place which doesn’t appreciate our service members.

If you don’t want to be charged by crunch fitness forever, DO NOT START THEIR MEMBERSHIP and DO NOT GIVE YOUR CREDIT CARD TO THEM. I opened my account on Nov 23rd and was informed that i couldn’t get access to “signature clubs”. They only said “multiple club access” when I signed up. So I need to cancel it but none of the signature clubs on Manhattan claimed to be able to help with that. And there is NO customer service number and online portal to do anything and every source is asking me to do that in person in the home gym. So I ended up traveling for hours to go to the home gym and just got to know that actually any gym can do the cancellation process, it was just they were being lazy and didn’t want to. They called it individual home gym management, which is a complete disaster operation. It was such a waste of time and waste of energy dealing with all those arrogant“signature clubs managers”. I ended up cancelling it on Nov 28th after all that, before the first billing cycle (Dec 1st). But they still charged me monthly membership fee on Dec 1st despite that my account has already been deactivated days ago. I tried to call, email, talk to people in the gym. None of those works. They all claimed to be irresponsible of this charge and there is nowhere I can file the claim and have an active human to talk to. This is probably so far the most frustrating experience I have ever had with any gym, or any merchants. I would never trust crunch fitness ever again and I will make sure my friends will not fall into this scamming business.
