Crunch Fitness - 34th Street
About
Crunch Fitness on 34th Street offers a comprehensive gym experience with a full range of equipment for strength training and cardio. While the facility is not particularly large, it provides the essential tools needed for a complete workout. Some members appreciate the motivating atmosphere and find the equipment well maintained in the workout areas. The gym includes amenities like a sauna and steam room, which members value for post workout recovery, though their availability can be inconsistent.
reviewsWhat Members Say
Members report that the gym has adequate equipment for workouts but is consistently overcrowded, making it difficult to access machines. Several reviewers describe negative experiences with specific staff members, including trainer Sean and member advisor Michael Hope, who are perceived as bossy and unprofessional, especially during evening hours when no manager is present. Praise focuses on the motivating atmosphere and well maintained workout equipment, while significant concerns include poor facility maintenance with moldy showers, falling tiles, and inconsistent availability of the sauna and steam room. Many members express frustration with the $130 monthly fee given these conditions and the inconvenient in person cancellation process requiring 30 days notice.

I like this branch. Even though it’s not very big, it has all the equipment I need. The people here motivate me to keep improving my health. However, I hope the sauna and steam room can be kept open more consistently, because some days when I come, they’re closed. They really help with blood circulation and muscle relaxation after workouts, which is very important to me.

The workout area is in the equipment are nice and well taken care of, and that area is generally clean. With that in mind, the showers are atrocious. The tiles are falling off of the walls and more importantly, the bathroom and showers smell like actual mold. I don’t understand how hard it is to bleach and keep clean a facility 2 to 3 times a day. How can one spend $100 a month and expect anything different. Crunch makes huge net profits annually. I propose leadership rehab facilities before they fall apart.

I was a member of this gym for nearly four years and recently canceled my membership. Unfortunately, I agree with the overwhelming majority of negative reviews. This facility is very poorly managed. The manager, Isidro, does not take customer complaints seriously, which makes resolving issues extremely frustrating.I also had a very negative experience with a senior trainer, Sean, and a member advisor, Michael Hope. Their behavior was openly power-tripping and bossy, particularly in the evening when there is no manager on the spot. They made it clear that they believed they were the bosses of the gym and that customers were expected to obey them—or leave. This kind of treatment toward paying members is unacceptable. If you are on a tight budget and can work out during off-peak hours—such as early mornings or around 2 p.m.—and avoid staff interaction, you might be okay. However, I strongly recommend reading the existing negative reviews, as they accurately reflect the overall experience. Be aware that you cannot cancel your membership online. Cancellation must be done in person and requires a 30-day advance notice. Overall, a very disappointing experience and a complete sham.

At $130 a month plus hidden fees, I expected better. Instead, it’s overcrowded every day, equipment is always taken, clean towels are limited, lockers are a mess, the steam room is packed, and the showers barely function with tiles falling apart. It feels more like cheap neighborhood gym than a decent one. Send a little more for a better cleaner gym.

Some of the personal trainers at crunch on 34th are pretty awful. I know good training and want to give others fair warning: the caliber of trainers here is low. I saw one trainer yelling and scolding a client for doing a core exercise wrong. He just kept saying no no no at the client. I felt so bad for the client who was trying his best and just wanted to learn. Real personal training should be supportive and encouraging. This trainer didn’t have the requisition coaching skills to work productively with clients. I saw another trainer get super rude with another gym goer who asked if a piece of equipment was available. The trainer and trainee weren’t using it for anything other than a cell phone stand. It’s pretty rude to occupy equipment in a busy gym with your phone and prevent others from using it. Her response to the person who politely asked was completely unwarranted. The crunch fitness app and software systems are awful. They just don’t work.
