Equinox Williamsburg
About
Equinox Williamsburg offers gym, CrossFit, and Olympic weightlifting disciplines in a well-equipped Brooklyn facility. Members appreciate the friendly staff who are fun to chat with and create a welcoming atmosphere. The gym gets busy during weekday evenings around 5-6pm, particularly around the bench and squat racks, but members generally find the environment conducive to their workouts with regulars open to friendly interaction. Classes are described as fun, though participants typically keep to themselves as expected in NYC gym settings.
reviewsWhat Members Say
Members consistently praise specific personal trainers like Luciano, Matt Commodore, and Adam Labossiere for their expertise, personalized approach, and ability to deliver results through creative, challenging workouts. They appreciate trainers who listen to goals, pay attention to form, and provide both gym guidance and lifestyle advice while maintaining a motivating, caring attitude. The gym atmosphere is generally welcoming with friendly staff and regulars open to conversation, though it gets busy during peak evening hours with equipment wait times. One negative review mentions concerns about some trainers' professionalism and spatial awareness, but this appears isolated among overwhelmingly positive feedback about the training experience.

Luciano is hands down the best personal trainer I’ve ever worked with. Every session is thoughtful, challenging, and never boring — he has such creative, interesting movements that keep workouts fresh while still being incredibly effective. He really pays attention to form, listens to your goals, and knows exactly how to push you in the right way without overdoing it. I’ve seen real results and actually look forward to training. If you’re looking for someone knowledgeable, motivating, and just genuinely awesome to work with, Luciano is it

This review is specifically for my personal trainer/coach at the Williamsburg Equinox, Matt Commodore. I have been training with Matt for 1.5+ years now, and because of him I am not only the most consistent I have ever been at the gym in my entire life, but its the first time I felt like a personal trainer actually listens to me/understands me while simultaneously challenging me all while reaching my fitness goals. I was the person who was previously very intimidated by weights, and also recovering from an injury & not wanting to injure myself. I am stronger than I've ever been, I have built actual muscle for the first time ever + I can tell that he is actually invested in me and my overall health. I've been going through a rough time personally and Matt has not only been understanding but also encouraging me and its helped me stay on track. You know when you can feel someone's passion for their job? That is what you will see with Matt. He's always offering helpful tips for both in the gym and also for living life out side of the gym, which I appreciate. Matt is also passionate about boxing, and while that's something I had never done before training with him, we will throw in 10 mins of boxing from time to time for cardio - so its always interesting & fun (besides when he makes me do bulgarians). He's also comes up with fun ways to game-ify certain exercises and as a competitive person I am into that. I feel like I am in good hands with Matt, and highly recommend him if you're looking to build a consistent, results-driven routine while being challenged by someone who actually cares about you both inside and outside of the gym! For my 3rd day per week, Matt made me a routine to do at the gym by myself, and now I actually feel confident and know my way around the gym when I'm there without him. Thanks, Matt! You have officially made me a gym girl!

Love this gym. The staff are friendly and fun to chat with. The classes are fun, and while people in classes generally keep to themselves (as is expected of NYC gym classes), the regulars generally are open to friendly chitchat. I haven't worked out with the trainers, but at least 3 of them are friendly and no-pressure trainers. Re: the weights, I noticed it gets busy around 5 or 6pm on weekdays. You sometimes have to wait your turn for the bench and squat racks during that time.

Adam Labossiere is an incredible physical trainer. He’s smart, friendly, professional and a wealth of knowledge when it comes to all things related to fitness and health. I worked with him for a couple of years, I lost 35 lbs of fat and gained significant muscle mass. He’s great at pushing me while also making sure I maintain proper form. We completed a wide range of exercises and he always designed diverse workouts that challenged my full range of muscle groups. I also appreciate his sense of humor and general kindness. I’m sad he’s transitioning to the Greenwich Village location but I wish him the very best on next leg of his journey. He is the one of the main reasons I have maintained my Equinox membership for this many years. Thanks Adam!

Trainers look like they need trainers. They have poor attitudes, behave like they’ve never been in a gym, zero etiquette, zero professionalism, zero special awareness. Will bulldoze you and your personal space, even when there is no one else in the gym, and there’s plenty of open space/open equipment. Jokes
