About

Elite Barbell is a Brooklyn gym specializing in Olympic weightlifting and general strength training, offering an alternative to commercial fitness centers. The facility features extensive specialty equipment rarely found elsewhere, including a Wenning belt squat, Mars bars, Kabuki football bars, and Indian clubs. Owner Milton fosters a community atmosphere with fair pricing, and many members report positive experiences with his coaching approach, including significant weight loss success stories.

reviewsWhat Members Say

Members praise the extensive specialty equipment like Wenning belt squats and specialty bars, which provide unique training options not found in typical gyms. Many highlight owner Milton's fair pricing and supportive coaching, with one member crediting him for helping lose 30 pounds. Concerns include loud music that permeates even noise-canceling headphones, inconsistent availability of paper towels for equipment cleaning, and occasional inattentiveness from front staff. The gym's convenient location, extended hours, and strong community atmosphere are frequently mentioned positives, though some note basic amenities and organizational issues like missed appointments.

Absolutely love this gym, it's a true diamond in the rough. I was just looking for a gym to get a day pass for a quick workout. This gym has some very solid old school equipment and specialty equipment you just don't find in other gyms like a Wenning belt squat and a ton of speciality bars like the mars bar or khabuki football bar. They had Indian clubs which I haven't touched since in school at Swedish Institute. Milton is awesome too, very fair pricing, he is trying to build a community of lifters who are tired of the commercial gym setting. Really love my time at Elite.

To all readers, please keep in mind that this review exhibits an opinion that is unique to my experience. I am sure that each individual will have different things to share with the public. After being a member of this gym for three months, I have decided to leave and join another gym. Here are a few reasons for that decision. Music: There is no dedicated sound system in this gym; however, large Bluetooth speakers are provided for patrons to connect their phones. Unfortunately, most of the time, whoever chooses the music plays it at one of the loudest settings. This will prevent even the most advanced noise-canceling headphones from being useful. Many times, I would give up and turn my music off because I figured I was only damaging my ears if I increased the volume. Even at the highest setting, the gym speaker's music would still permeate the noise-canceling barrier. I decided to purchase the plan that includes the “exclusive” lifting rooms in the back, and even when closing the door to the innermost room, I could still hear the music. It felt as if I were in a music venue. This setting was not ideal for me, as my music taste differs from the music being played most of the time. Towels: The gym does not provide its clients with towels, but that’s okay; they make up for it in other ways. They do provide sturdy paper towels; however, the issue was that there were several days when no paper towels were provided at all, which meant I couldn’t wipe down the equipment. Most of the front staff spend their time on their phones and seem to be in their own world. Again, I don’t mind, but it would have made a better impression if they were just a little more attentive to the few amenities of the gym. Side note: You will need to bring a gallon of water for your own consumption during training, or opt to drink tap water from the bathrooms. No filtered water is offered here. Some of the conveniences: A block away from my residence. This was a significant factor in my decision to join the program. Nothing beats a 2-minute commute to the gym after a long day of work. The operating hours are also great, as they are open until 11, or you have the option of paying a little extra for 24-hour access. Equipment variety: I loved the amount of equipment the gym offers! None of it is new, but it functions. The equipment enabled me to incorporate a variety of exercises into my routine. Keep in mind that the equipment is relatively close to each other. Clean: The staff kept the bathrooms well-stocked and clean. Sometimes, there would be no hand soap, but this happened about twice during my membership. Overall, this was a great experience, but for the price, I would have liked a little more than just paper towels. I don’t think the gym is for everyone, but it nonetheless has its own charm. There is definitely a sense of community in the gym, some members are more friendly than others, but I am sure that if I had tried, they would have welcomed me. It was a great run! Thank you for the experience.

Best gym in Brooklyn for price. Great environment, friendly gym staff, and have all the gym equipment you could never imagine. Would recommend to anyone looking for a new gym to signup to or even try for a day pass. Highly recommend Elite Barbell.

Had an appointment at 10am to see the gym and possibly sign up for membership. Arrived, no one was around. Called the phone number, no one picked up. I waiting for 15 minutes in the snow for someone to arrive or call back. Nothing. Then three people showed up to check the building. One of them was the owner of the gym. I told him I had an appointment. His response was "with who?". Like bro I don't know it's YOUR website. He didn't know they had a website service. And they had also changed the locks, which he was unaware of. All round shit show. Not mad. Just cold. Good luck.
