I am new to resistance, weight training and I hired Fae, who turned out to be hands-down, my favorite person I've ever trained with. She makes me feel 100% safe in doing this with my fairly broken body parts. I already have strength gains. I would recommend her to absolutely anyone. Every person in the gym is friendly, it is always clean, and I always leave there wanting to go back for more

By far the best gym in Reno and one of the top five gyms I've been to in the country. The space is big enough for classes, and open gym, at the same time. I also enjoyed the yoga option, sauna, cold plunge, and the physical therapy. The coaching is top notch, and the people are arguably even better.

This is for those who are scared to try CrossFit. I refused for years to try CrossFit. It seemed too intense, too cultish, and I was convinced I would be the soft body amongst a sea of hard bodied meat heads. After about eight year's of dragging my feet, I was finally convinced to try my first class at Double Edge Fitness, Midtown. I was hooked day one. I've tried my whole life to be somewhat healthy and fit, but, I am, by no means, in super shape (and even less so after baby). I'm older, a mom who works full-time, and started with very little knowledge about weight training and CrossFIT. My mantra is just show up, challenge yourself, and be humble in your learning. What you don't hear is that the community is what you stay for. I probably have the most amount of female friends I've ever had and they are the most authentically supportive, thoughtful, and inspiring group of women I've ever met. I had only worked out there a year and the 6am/7am women threw me a baby shower when I got pregnant. I ended up meeting one of my best preggo friends there and we continue to motivate each other to get our pre-preggo bodies back. My baby ended up in the NICU at UC Davis for 5 months and the overwhelming support my partner and I got from our gym family, was so amazing. They are very family friendly and have a children's room to keep your little one occupied while you work out. Members offer to watch your kid while you work out all the time. It's unreal how kind everybody is at this gym. Second, they start where you are now. You are not expected to lift super heavy, do a thousand push-ups and master a pull-up the minute you walk through the door. There are scaled options for every move, the coach ensures you have proper technique and are adamant about not hurting yourself to keep up with the group. You check your ego at the door. You work out next to moms, teachers, construction workers, techies, and those supposed "meat heads," who started where you are now and worked years to look like that. Third, the professional support from the coaches. They care, like, really care, about you as a person and getting you to those health goals you walked in with. They are also good at making them more realistic and achievable. This gym is local, owned by local Nevadans. You will most likely have a conversation with at least one of the owners on the daily and all of them are very educated on the subject whether you want to talk physical activity, nutrition, or supplementation. There are options to do additional programming with the coaches, in case you need that one-on-one accountability. Lastly, the amenities. I learned most CrossFit gyms do not have air conditioning. DE does. They have two locations (Midtown and South Reno). The Midtown location has a recovery room with a sauna and cold plunge. They use Precision Nutrition to give you a more personalized nutrition plan and you have unlimited access to their In Body machine so you can track more accurate measures of weight loss and muscle building. The owner meticulously researches all supplements sold in the gym, so you know you are getting quality products. The coffee is free and delicious (if Derek makes it anyway). They have an open gym area if you want to put in work outside of the classes. They have a "Master's" class for those **cough** older adults. They have a kiddie room. AND, Active Health is in house with Dr. McBroom for chiropractic/PT care. I saw him religiously when I was preggo. He has a special understanding on how to work with athletes and people who do these types of workouts, plus special certifications for working with pregnant women. I did not intend this review to be a dissertation. I just really love this gym and think you should try it. I swear you won't regret it. Hands down, they are one of the best gyms in Reno. Plus you can feel good about supporting local businesses.

Double-edge fitness is the single most impressive crossfit gym I have ever had the opportunity to be a part of. Here is just a few of reasons why. 1) More than just a crossfit box, with two great locations, each with a class area and separate area for members to work out. Most crossfit gyms don't have ways for people to work out much, if at all unless they're attending class. It's a dream getting extra work in with full equipment availability and not need my own gear at home or a separate gym membership. 2) Coaching and Programming - I've worked with at least 10 current and former coaches, each has been uniquely awesome from their personalities to coaching styles. A few things they all have in common though are respect, flexibility in working with each individual where their bodies and minds are capable (without excessively pushing the boundaries of uncomfortable) and making sure people are doing the right things to avoid injury. I make more progress faster at Double-edge than I ever have at another gym or on my own. 3) Family and community oriented - There are so many awesome events throughout the year from Maxing with the Coaches to the Christmas Party. From competing to giving back to the community to honoring our fallen heroes, there is a set of values lived by the ownership and staff of Double-Edge that make Reno a better place to live, and I will miss this place more than anything whenever I move away again. Lets not get too fluffy here though, this place is far from perfect. A few things I had to overlook to rate this place a 10 - 1) Coach Jacob's DJing, thankfully his jokes make up for it. 2) Coach Chase's teaching us Clamshells and Copenhagan Planks in the same week, that's cruel and unusual punishment. 3) Coach Derek's jokes, but he taught me about making delicious healthy ice cream, my favorite life-hack ever.
